The Carter County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate a Saturday morning shooting that left one man dead.
Deputies were dispatched to Hillside Drive in the Sinking Creek community at approximately 1 a.m. after multiple people called and reported shots fired in the area. When they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his chest. Deputies administered CPR until an ambulance arrived to transport him to the hospital. He died of his injuries shortly thereafter.
Investigators were called to the scene and determined that both the victim and a suspect had exchanged gunshots with each other. They also discovered that the victim had been driving a stolen vehicle and was wanted on multiple arrest warrants.
