Carter County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man Sunday after he assaulted a woman and took her two children.
30-year-old Michael Lawrence Carpenter was taken into custody and charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and elder abuse.
Deputies were called to Whaley Town Road around 3:20 p.m., where a woman told them Carpenter assaulted her, pushed her into a barbed wire fence and took two children from her. Carpenter is the biological father of the two children, but the woman showed court documents stating she has sole custody of them.
Deputies then went to Carpenter’s home, where they found him and the two children. Carpenter was then taken into custody.
Carpenter is being held in the Carter County Detention Center on $41,000 total bond. He is due in court on April 5.
