Deputies and officers with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and Johnson City Police Department arrested 22 suspects in a misdemeanor warrant round up early Tuesday morning.

19 suspects were taken into custody based on Carter County and Johnson City warrants, and two others were arrested on Washington County warrants. The arrests were primarily based on failures to appear in court and probation violations, with a variety of original charges. One of the arrests also led to additional drug charges.

The round up is the latest in a series of collaborative efforts to reduce crime in the Northeast Tennessee region. Sheriff Dexter Lunceford’s administration has conducted these round ups based on the theory that proactive warrant service helps reduce crime.

“What we’ve seen over the past five years is a major reduction in crime in Carter County,” Lunceford said. “We’re working now to strengthen our relationships with nearby agencies and spread that success, and this round up is just one part of how we do that.”
