2 Arrested, Charged after Vehicular Pursuit on I-26

Suspects Charles Williams Jr. (left) and Mark Alan Briscoe (right).

Carter County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men Monday morning after a vehicular pursuit that crossed into Washington and Sullivan County.

The chase began when a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a silver Dodge Grand Caravan that had an incorrect license plate. The driver of the van refused to pull over and attempted to flee. Deputies pursued the van along Interstate 26 through Washington County all the way to the Sullivan County line. The vehicle was stopped near exit 10 on Eastern Star Road. Tennessee Highway Patrol assisted in the pursuit by deploying spike strips near exit 13.

55-year-old Charles Williams and 53-year-old Mark Alan Briscoe were arrested and taken to the Carter County Detention Center. Williams is charged with driving under the influence, aggravated assault, evading arrest and simple possession of a Schedule VI drug. Briscoe is also charged with Schedule VI drug violations.

One Carter County cruiser took considerable damage from collisions during the pursuit. No deputies were injured.
