Civil Service Exam

All applicants must take and pass the Civil Service Exam to be eligible for employment with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.

Civil Service exams are held on the second Tuesday of each month, at 6 p.m. at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Elizabethton campus, located at 426 Highway 91, Elizabethton. Applications will be made available on site beginning at 5 PM, and you may fill out an application at that time if you have not done so yet. Testing will begin at 6 PM, so be sure to arrive with enough time to complete your application beforehand if necessary. You must bring a valid form of ID with you to take the test.

Minimum qualifications: High School Diploma or GED, proof of US Citizenship.

Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated Entry Level IT Technician to join our team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for technology and a desire to kickstart their career in IT support. The successful candidate will provide technical assistance and support to our users, ensuring smooth operations of our IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide first-line technical support to users via phone, email, or in person.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues, diagnosing and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, peripherals, and software applications.
  • Assist with IT inventory management, including tracking and ordering of equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to escalate complex issues and coordinate resolution.
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining office network infrastructure, including switches and access points.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks like system updates, backups, and security patches.
  • Document IT procedures, user guides, and troubleshooting steps for future reference.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or Certificate in Information Technology, Systems, or Computer Science (or 2+ years of related experience).
  • Understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems (Windows) and productivity software (Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, ISC2 CC) are a plus.
